It sounds like the start of a bad joke: How many landslides does it take to start a brewery? The historic Jordan Brewery was built in 1866 and has survived a multitude of tribulations: prohibition, a fire, abandonment and plans to tear it down. Built at the base of a river bluff where caves could be carved into the hillside to lager beer, its location would ultimately be its downfall. 
 

Malthouse #6 Premium Pilsner, a collaboration between Rahr Malting Co. and Badger Hill Brewing of Shakopee, was brewed to commemorate the successful commissioning of Rahr’s new Malthouse #6.

J. Carver Distillery www.jcarverdistillery.com In 1766, colonial Massachusetts explorer and writer Jonathan Carver lead an expedition to find a western water route to the Pacific Ocean known as the Northwest Passage. There was great incentive to discover this route as the king and parliament had promised a vast prize in gold for any such discovery.

When Robert Trent Jones saw the land that hugs the edge of Lake Saugahatchee that would be developed into his Grand National course, he described it as the “single greatest” site for a golf complex that he had ever seen. It’s no wonder then that in 2005 Golf Digest named the Auburn-Opelika Metropolis as the number one area for golf in the United States.
 

In 1916 as part of the war effort, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company sent executive Paul W. Litchfield to buy up land west of Phoenix to grow Egyptian long cotton that was used to reinforce tires. Paul Litchfield established the headquarters here for the Southwest Cotton Company and this company town was officially named Litchfield Park in 1926.
 

Tucked in between the Blue Ridge Mountains and Greenville, Travelers Rest earned its name because travelers would stop there before embarking on the difficult journey into the mountains; oftentimes spending the winter waiting for the mountain snow to clear. A throwback to a time before traffic jams and chain stores, it is filled with family-oriented businesses that cater to the needs of the community.
 

The small town of Incline Village sits on the picturesque north shore of Lake Tahoe. During the mining boom in the late 1800s, lumber for the mines was harvested from the abundant timber supplies around Lake Tahoe. The lumber hauled up 1,400 feet on an incline railway and then dropped through a gravity flume down the western side of the mountain to Carson City.
